City Gumshoes to Bust Crime with Shoeprints

Head’s up (or would it be foot’s down?) to all you scheming sneakerheads out there:

If you were planning to take down that bank on the corner for some extra kick funds anytime soon, best do it with some plastic bags wrapped over your Nikes. Mayor Bloomberg recently announced that the NYPD would soon create a “footwear recognition database” capable of not only of tracing specific kinds of footwear but also of analyzing the wearer’s walking patterns. Creeepy.

User Submission: Sneaking on the Subway

Not even sure what these are

Not even sure what these are

The picture is blurry and the shoe is not recognized, but it is a User Submission with a story, and therefore makes it onto StreetSneak.com. A fan and fellow Street Sneaker captured this pic on the subway, en route to work. After snapping the picture, the (cell phone) photographer was asked, “Why did you just do that?” After a brief pause, no response was given. Some people just don’t understand.

Anyway…does anyone know what the F these are?

Top 100 Sneakers…

...of the 2000s

...of the 2000s

As we quickly approach Q4 of 2009, Complex – the leading purveyor of urban pop culture – has decided it’s time to count down the best of the 2000s. The Top 100 Sneakers is one of the categories, and over the next few weeks we will see the Top 100 Albums, Internet Videos, T-Shirts, and a handful of other categories that will undoubtedly reel us in.

The Sneakers list is heavy on Nike SBs, which I guess is pretty accurate of the past decade. They burst onto the scene (and into my closet) at a rapid rate in the early 2000s, and still feature a number of highly sought after kicks.

Here it is, Complex’s Top 100 Sneakers of the 2000s. How many do you own? How many do you wish you owned?
